HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A former Holland Mayor, a group of “extraordinary students” and a symbol of a Holland institution will be leading the three Tulip Time Festival parades in 2016.
Officials of Holland’s annual signature event announced that Trinity Christian College President Kurt Dykstra and his family will be the Grand Marshals for the Crown Motors Volksparade on May 11th. It will be the first formal public appearance for Dykstra in the Tulip City since his resignation as Holland’s Mayor last June 30th.
Students involved in the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District’s “futurePREP’d” program are the Grand Marshals for the Metal Flow Kinderparade on May 12th. The program offers students innovative tools and experiences to help them make decisions that positively impact their careers and their quality of life.
For the GMB Muziekparade on May 14th, “DUTCH,” the Hope College costumed mascot, will be the Grand Marshal, in celebration of the Holland school’s sesquicentennial. This parade falls on the same date 150 years ago that Hope received its charter from the state of Michigan, and the college has grown to over 33 hundred students this academic year.
The Tulip Time Festival begins its eight-day run on May 7th.
