ZEELAND TWP, MI (WHTC) – A 20-year-old Zeeland resident was airlifted to Spectrum Health Butterworth after his vehicle was pinned under a semi-truck in Zeeland Township.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Austin said the crash happened just before 9 a.m. on I-196’s eastbound business loop, at the exit nearest Byron Road.
He said Illinois resident Joseph Matthews, driving a semi, was leaving the freeway’s eastbound lanes and turning left onto westbound Byron Road as Zeeland resident Miguel Gutierrez, 20, was eastbound on Byron Road.
Gutierrez was unable to stop for the truck His car was pinned under the semi.
The crash remains under investigation.
