HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Tulip Time festivities don’t start until this Saturday, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other events lined up in Holland area this week!
5/2 Monday: Knickerbocker Paul Newman One Night Only Film Series- A showing of Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, starring Paul Newman. 86 East 8th Street, Holland; 7:30pm; $5.
5/3 Tuesday: Live Music at Hops at 84 East- Bring your friends to Hops’ taproom every Tuesday night to enjoy live music from a talented, local musician. They have a revolving cast of musicians that will entertain you with their interpretations of popular music. 84 East Eighth Street, Holland; 7pm to 10pm; Free.
5/4 Wednesday: Nature Hikes at Hudsonville Nature Center – Bird Hike- Hike is led by Hudsonville’s City Naturalist. 2700 New Holland St, Hudsonville; 8am; Free.
5/5 Thursday: Toy Stories: the Toy Collection of Tom & Merrill Taylor at the Holland Museum- Tom and Merrill Taylor developed an interest in antique signs and advertisements in the 1970s. This interest sparked their passion for collecting and it wasn’t long before their interests grew to include a large, diverse collection of vintage toys. 31 West 10th Street, Holland; 11am-4pm; Adults $7, Seniors $6, Students $4, Children under 6 Free.
5/6 Friday: LAUP Fiesta at the Holland Civic Center- One of the longest running events of its kind in West Michigan, the Latin American United for Progress (LAUP) Fiesta now draws over 20,000 attendees every year. Fiesta features: Latino entertainment, a carnival, various exhibitors, and everyone’s favorite: lots of food! Fiesta begins on Friday night with an outdoor concert and food booths lined up and down the Eighth Street Market Place. The festivities continue on Saturday. The afternoon brings a variety of musical acts, including mariachis, cultural dances, and more. 150 West Eighth Street, Holland; 5pm; Free.
5/7 Saturday: Tulip Time Festival starts! Vintage Base Ball Game at Riverview Park- Take in this wonderful vintage game of baseball as the Douglas Dutchers Base Ball Club battle against the Chicago Salmon Base Ball Club. 6th Street and College Avenue, Holland; 2pm-4pm; Free.
Also on Saturday: Tulip Time Arts & Craft Fair in Centennial Park- The Art & Craft Fair is located in the center of the hustle and bustle of festival activities. Visitors can enjoy strolling through over 230 juried exhibits showing fine art and original crafts in this two day event. 250 Central Ave., Holland; Sat 10a-6p, Sun 10a-4p; Free.
5/8 Sunday: Historic Dutch Trade Fair at Windmill Islands- Wind your way through the historic camp filled with colonial merchants and re-enactors. Learn what Dutch trade items were sought after 200 years ago and shop for your own piece of the past to take home! The Historic Dutch Trade Fair is held during the nationally known Tulip Time Festival where over 150,000 tulips and Windmill Island’s 18th century Dutch windmill take a central role. Tulip Time celebrates the heritage of the Dutch who settled Holland, Michigan. The Historic Dutch Trade Fair celebrates the influence of the Dutch who shaped colonial America. Re-enactors representing a variety of different cultures show how trade helped create the multiculturalism of colonial society. Those whose lives revolved around trade including Native Americans, voyageurs, fur traders, merchants, and tradesmen & women will help share their part of this American story.
