HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A portion of US-31 on Holland’s south side was closed Saturday morning following a critical accident involving an 18-year-old Holland man.
WODTV.com reported that the man was trying to cross US-31 on the east side of Lincoln Avenue at around 5:30 a.m. when he was struck by a 45-year-old Fennville man driving a 2009 Kia Spectra northeast on US-31. The 18-year-old man, identified as Drew Garcia by relatives, was first taken to Holland Hospital and then transferred to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
He is listed in critical condition. Police do not believe speed or alcohol was the cause of the crash. It is also believed that the traffic on US-31 had a green light at the time Garcia was crossing the highway, giving traffic the right-of-way. US-31 was shut down for about three hours after the accident so Holland police could investigate the crash.
