HOLLAND (WHTC) — President Obama heads to Japan this week and Holland gets a prominent Japanese visitor and exhibition.
As part of a month-long appreciation, the Japan Foundation of New York has loaned World Heritage photos to the city.
On Wednesday, Consul of Japan Mitsuhiro Wada, will visit City Hall to talk about Michigan’s connection to Japan on economic, cultural and political levels.
He’ll speak in the city hall council chambers as part of an event that starts at 2 p.m. with a welcome reception immediately following.
The event is open to the public.
Japan Foundation of New York loaned World Heritage site photographs by Kazuyoshi Miyoshi, the youngest recipient of the prestigious Kimura Ihei award
His photos are showcased throughout the City of Holland, at City Hall, Herrick District Library, Holland Museum and the Holland Visitors and Convention Bureau.
May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. May commemorates the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States in 1843. May also marks the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869, mostly built by Chinese immigrants.
