HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Hope Summer Repertory Theatre will launch their 45th season with an eight-time Tony awards winning musical.
The musical “Hairspray” which is based on the 1988 movie, will take you back in time to Baltimore 1962 where kids tuned in to variety shows, use a pencil and paper for homework and although it’s the height of the fashion scene, segregation still prevails through schools, shops and even television shows. Hairspray takes place during one of the most tumultuous times in our nation’s history.
The main character Tracy is a high school student hoping for a chance to perform on the popular local dance program, “The Corny Collins Show.” During her journey she meets a diverse band of characters and soons finds that while fighting her own dream there is a much larger hurdle to overcome.
The cast features over thirty members with an extensive production team and will open on Friday, June 17th at 8 p.m. at Dewitt Theatre. Tickets are available online or at the door.
