Zeeland BPW Wants Council’s Approval for Purchasing Wind Power

ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – During tonight’s Zeeland City Council meeting, the panel will be asked to approve a long-term renewable energy purchase request from the Zeeland Board of Public Works. Utility General Manager WJ Cook, in a memo to council, claims that the BPW has the opportunity through the Michigan Public Power Agency to commit to a Purchase Power Agreement for up to nearly 12 megawatts of wind-generated energy and associated capacity, along with all related environmental attributes, for up to 20 years. It would augment the utility’s renewable portfolio and enable it to meet the state’s 10-percent standard without purchasing energy credits.
