HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Holland resident Jeffrey Adkins, 51, died this morning at around 4:15 a.m. surrounded by family according to Sgt. Dean DeVries of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.The cause of dealth has not yet been determined.
His car plunged into a pond in Ottawa County Tuesday afternoon. Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene near North Wellness Drive, just north of Riley Street, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Christie Wendt.
Police found witnesses frantically trying to free Adkins who was not conscious, Wendt said.
Ottawa Sheriff’s deputies, including dive team members, Holland Township firefighters and an LKM Wrecker unit were able to pull the car from the water and extricate Adkins. He was underwater for approximately 40 minutes, she said, and rushed by AMR Ambulance to Holland Hospital.
It’s unclear how the crash happened, Wendt said.
The incident remains under investigation.
