FENNVILLE, MI (WHTC) – A gas pump in Fennville caught on fire Friday morning, causing a section of M-89 to be shut down to traffic.
According to the Fennville Area Fire Department, at 7:40 a.m. a commercial truck used to trim trees was trying to exit the BP gas station located on E. Main Street in Fennville. On its way out of the gas station, the truck clipped one of the pumps and knocked it over.
Gas station employees immediately hit the emergency shut off to pump after seeing the crash, but there will still several small explosions that resulted from the residual gasoline that was in and around the damaged pump.
Firefighters arrived on the scene quickly after the explosions took place and were able to put out the flames. M-89 (W. Main Street) between Park and 56th Street was closed for about two hours yesterday morning.
