HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The millage levy that funds Herrick District Library will expire in 2016 and Holland area voters will head to the polls to vote on a 1.5 mill levy on August 2, 2016.
The last library millage levy was in 1996 when the District Library was created. The new millage levy is requesting 1.5 mills of funding over 14 years which is the same level of funding that the community approved in 1996.
Library officals say 85% of Herrick District’s Library budget comes from local tax dollars. If the measure does not pass they say the library could not operate in the future on the 15% remaining without approval of a millage levy to sustain funding. If the measure fails, officials say the library will close.
A home owner with a home valued at $150,000 currently pays approximately $93.00 per year. With the funding level restored to 1.5 mills that home owner would see an increase of $19.58.
The library has posted information about the millage on their website.
Register to vote and get more additional voting information. The last day to register to vote is July 5 and the last day to request an absentee ballot is July 30, 2016 by 2 p.m.
