SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – Festivities on South Haven’s North Beach last night were apparently marred to a point that authorities had to clear the site out of visitors prior to the annual Independence Day holiday fireworks.
Various media reports claim that several people were arrested when violence erupted, with three people suffering injuries when bottles were thrown into the crowd. State police troopers were called in to assist South Haven police in handling the situation. This event has had disciplinary issues in the past, with increased police patrols yesterday as a result.
The fireworks display was held as scheduled despite the evacuation of the North Beach area. South Haven Police didn’t immediately issue a statement about the matter.
