HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The next phase in renovating Holland’s 9th Street begins this week.
The major eastbound artery through the downtown district is getting an overhaul this summer, with repaving of the roadway, replacing sewer work that is around a hundred years old, and installing the snowmelt system. Since the conclusion of the Tulip Time Festival, 9th Street has been blocked off from River to Lincoln avenues.
On Wednesday, work begins on a one-block stretch from River to Pine avenues that will have a bearing on north-south traffic that is already affected by the US-31 renovation in Holland Township. Motorists heading into downtown from Holland’s North Side will be diverted onto 4th Street and Central Avenue, with a temporary traffic signal on River Avenue at 4th Street to be activated today. Those wishing to continue through will be directed by signs to an alternate route. Northbound River Avenue will be narrowed to one lane at 9th Street.
The “Phase A” work should be done by the end of July, while the “Phase B” effort goes through mid-August, according to City of Holland officials.
