HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – It will be at least 24 more hours behind bars for a 34-year-old Holland man who already spent the Independence Day holiday behind bars for allegedly being behind a robbery in the Washington Square district over the weekend.
The Holland District Court pushed back a scheduled Tuesday arraignment to Wednesday on armed robbery and larceny charges stemming from the 5:30 PM incident in the 400 block of Washington Avenue. Public Safety officers had been dispatched to a store on a report that a clerk had been held up at knife point and that the suspect had pedaled away from the scene.
Although shaken by the threat, the victim was unhurt and was able to give a description of the suspect. That, along with viewing surveillance video, showed that the man was also involved in a separate reported larceny that occurred the day before.
A cross checking of data with fellow officers and deputies at the Ottawa County Jail enabled the suspect’s name to emerge. A short time latee, a person and a bike that matched the descriptions from the Washington Avenue incident was spotted by a Public Safety officer pedaling on Ottawa Avenue. An arrest was made without incident. Some of the money taken in the store robbery was recovered.
Investigators believe that a witness who was in the store at the time the suspect arrived may have information that could be pertinant to the case. In addition, a light blue shirt with a white stripe on the arms, possibly a pro sports team shirt, along with camo pants that the suspect was wearing at the time of crime has yet to be recovered. Calls to the Holland Public Safety Police Detective Bureau at 616-355-1150 are welcome.
The suspect remains held on a total of over 100 thousand dollars bond on the two charges stemming from this crime, along with an unrelated warrant.
