HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A final decision on the future of the Holland Civic Center and its vicinity could come tonight.
The City Council holds a public hearing for the proposed Holland Civic Center Place public improvements project, with the design team providing a short summary, City Manager Ryan Cotton presenting the cost of the scope to-date, Finance Director Tim Vagle giving funding totals and options, and City Attorney Ron Vander Veen answering questions about whether a public vote on this November’s ballot will be needed.
Last month, council members came to an agreement on a 16.5 million-dollar plan for renovating the 62-year-old building and the surrounding area. Last Friday, the city learned that it qualified for a 11 million-dollar state Qualified Energy Conservation Bond that would substantially reduce the interest on bonds to pay for the project.
A two million-dollar donation to the city last July from James and Eileen Heeringa in honor of their parents provided the seed money and served as an initial impetus for this project.
