HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A red alert has been issued by the American Red Cross for blood and platelet donations.
Due to seasonal drop offs in both donations and blood drives, national reserves are currently below the five-day level needed to adequately supply medical facilities. According to Todd Kulman of the Great Lakes Blood Services Region office in Lansing, the Red Cross needs to collect approximately 14 thousand blood and platelet donations daily for patients at about 26 hundred hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide.
