HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – “The contractor is making good progress.”
Those words from city of Holland officials describe the ongoing efforts of reconstructing 9th Street from Washington Avenue to DeVos Fieldhouse. Begun just after the Tulip Time Festival ended in mid-May, the work in putting in a new roadway, along with installing a new water main, some sanitary sewer and storm sewer improvements, new snowmelt lines and other improvements has gone smoothly thus far.
As of Friday afternoon, one eastbound lane of 9th Street between River and Lincoln avenues was reopened to traffic, although work on sidewalks and driveway approaches continues. River Avenue is down to one lane at 9th Street, but that should be alleviated by early Sunday morning, while Pine Avenue will remain down to one lane through the middle of August, and College Avenue is blocked off between 8th and 10th streets for the next six weeks.
The three-phase project is still on target for a mid-October completion.
