HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Area beaches will be packed this week as temperatures reach 90.
There have been two drownings in three weeks on Lake Michigan and Sgt. Cal Kuening of the Ottawa County Dive Team not only stresses boating safety, but beach safety too.
When you’re at the beach and your kids are in the water Kuening says never take your eyes off your kids. If you have to, there is a program called “Water Watchers”. It’s a card with a whistle on it. Kuening says that way if you’re at the beach with your kids and somebody has to walk away for whatever reason, you can give the water watcher card to another guardian and say ” this is to remind you that you have to watch those kids, do not walk away and keep an eye on them.”
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office has the cards available at no charge.
