HASTINGS (WKZO-AM) — A Holland man and his girlfriend, wanted for assaulting the man’s 66-year-old mother, are back in Michigan after waiving extradition from Illinois and have been arraigned in Barry County.
Cory Wagner, 27, and Tiffany Chanthavong, 21, are being held on $800,000 bond each after Barry County Sheriff’s deputies say they beat the woman and left her for dead on July 4, bound with duct tape to a chair in the bathroom of her Assyria Township home.
Investigators said Wagner demanded money from his mother so he could leave the state and escape a hearing on a previous assault charge that would likely send him to jail.
When his mother refused, sheriff’s deputies said he attacked her, stole her credit card and her car and left her for dead. They claim his girlfriend assisted.
Wagner and Chanthavong are charged with attempted murder, extortion, kidnapping, credit card fraud and auto theft.
