HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Texting has become a way of life for most of us and that could soon include how you contact 911 services.
Several counties in southwest Michigan are working to install text-to-911 services which includes Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren county. In Ottawa County, Tim Smith of Ottawa County Dispatch says the new system could be in place by the end of 2016. “During domestic situations somebody may call and then hang up because they are under immediate threat and they can’t talk” Smith says as one of the reasons for implementing the program.
In Ionia County the new system has helped in domestic violence situations.
