HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Soon, Holland homeowners who wish to rent out part or all of their houses to seasonal visitors will be able to do so.
During Tuesday’s monthly meeting, the Holland Planning commission endorsed two amendments that would allow and regulate short term rentals within the Tulip City. Headed to the City Council for their consideration is a measure that enables owner-occupied homeowners the opportunity to rent out a room for up to 30 days, regardless of location, along with one that give non-owner occupied homeowners the opportunity to rent out their whole home for that same short-term period in certain commercial zone districts.
In an interview with WHTC News, Director of Community and Neighborhood Services Joel Dye admitted that planners have to walk a fine line between those who want strong home-owned neighborhoods in Holland and those who want to address a shortage of affordable housing in the Tulip City.
City Council is expected to consider the amendments on first reading at next Wednesday’s business meeting.
