PARK TWP., MI (WHTC) – Instead of the little boy who cried wolf in the children’s fairy tale, it’s a teenaged girl who cried attack on Holland’s North Side whose story turned out to be a fable.
The story from this past Sunday gained notoriety beyond the Lakeshore when an unnamed 14-year-old clamed that a man approached her while she was walking along a boardwalk near some cottages off of Terrace Walk, just north of Holland State Park. After refusing an offer of popcorn, the stranger allegedly grabbed the girl by the wrist, and she had to kick her way to freedom.
Following three days of extensive investigation, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Mark Bennett and his staff came to the conclusion that none of the victim’s claims could be substantiated, and when confronted by this, the girl allegedly admitted fabricating the entire story.
The case will be turned over to the County Prosecutor’s office for review. Bennett thanked the local media for their interest in the story, as well as the local Cottage Owners Association for their cooperation.
