HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 28, 2022) – A 28-year-old Norton Shores man was hospitalized after a fiery two-vehicle crash east of Holland during the overnight hours on Monday.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the junction of 112th Avenue and Business 196 at 4:40 AM. “A preliminary investigation at the scene scored that a 56-year-old man from Holland had stopped his eastbound SUV for a red light when he was struck from behind by the at-fault vehicle,” Dill said in a department statement. “Upon impact, the second vehicle, a Nissan Altima, caught fire, and Holland Township Fire responded to the scene to extinguish the fire. Eastbound Business 196 was closed for over an hour to facilitate the cleanup of the scene.”
While the Holland man was apparently unhurt, the Norton Shores man was taken to Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital for treatment of a “possible head injury,” Dill added, as the incident remains under investigation.
