HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A Heat Advisory will have temperatures climbing into the 90’s with high humidity through Friday, June 21.
The National Weather Service has issued the advisory till 7 p.m. Friday. Heat Index readings will soar to around 100 degrees today and Friday. Area beaches will be packed and so will the waters of Lake Michigan. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division will be out in full force says Sgt. Cal Kuening.
Kuening is urging water safety. He says it’s important to have a float plan and check the weather before you head out in your watercraft. He also reminds those who will be swimming in the big lake to pay attention to the flags out at State Parks. “You gotta wear your lifejackets. Heed the warnings too if there is a red flag up at the State Park beach, don’t go into the water. Green flag? Yeah, enjoy the water.”
Kuening also say that the winds can create rip currents. Grand Haven can get the southwest winds he says whereas Holland is a northwest wind.
We could see a thunderstorm overnight Friday which is a mixed blessing says West Michigan Meteorologist Brian Meade. It could make the humidity rise even more Meade says.
