SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC) – A chain reaction collision near a construction zone on I-196 near Saugatuck between two cars and three church buses left a number of very minor injuries but no major ones. It closed the highway down for several hours.
36 people were involved in the wreck as the vehicles tried to slow for construction but piled up behind each other. A total of 6 people suffered minor injuries. Two of them were taken to the hospital as a precaution but were treated and released.
One of the bus drivers was reportedly pinned under their steering wheel but was not seriously injured. It caused a very long backup in the north lanes which were closed for about two hours.
WZZM TV 13 reports that a Michigan Department of Transportation spokesman says they are monitoring road conditions in that area. it si the 9th accident in the area in the last three weeks.
