HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – In Ottawa County, nearly 29,000 people voted to approve a 10-year millage to support county parks.
Communications Specialist for Ottawa County Parks Jessica VanGinhoven says they have a lot planned for the next decade. She says in 2006 the parks department was focused on building the park system and aquiring a lot of land and now the focus shifts to keeping the parks in tip top shape.
“Some of the things we will focus on are all the stairs at places like Tunnel Park and make sure they look good and are safe. Another thing we will do in continued renovations on our facilities. Part of those renovations include exceeding ADA standards and making sure all of our buildings like picnic shelters and tables are accessible to everyone so that everyone can enjoy our parks.” VanGihoven says.
The average home owner in Ottawa County currently contributes about $25 annually to the Parks millage. The restoration will increase this annual payment to $26, an increase of $1 per year.
