PARK TWP., MI (WHTC) – An 11-year-old boy was nearly the latest victim of rough Lake Michigan waters near Holland State Park.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Marine Deputy Erik Bailey, the unnamed child and his brother were swimming together near the north pier around 5 PM on Saturday when wave conditions prevented them from returning to shore. While the one brother, who is also 11, was able to get to a rocky area near the pier and exited the water, Bailey piloted his department boat to the area, threw out a line to the distressed youth, and pulled him to the vessel safely.
The child was treated at the scene by responding paramedics and returned to the custody of his parents.
