HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg about fraudulent calls in the area.
Sheriff’s say over the course of the afternoon on Monday August 8, several residents in and around the northwest area of Ottawa County, have received a fraudulent call that is using the phone number to the Spring Lake Branch of the Sheriff’s Office.
Random individuals have been called and advised they owe money to the IRS and if they don’t pay the requested amount, that members of the Spring Lake Police Department will come to arrest them. When they received this call, the caller id comes back to the current Spring Lake branch of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office says if you get a call from someone advising they are a member of the Spring Lake Police Department, please be advised this is fraudulent. Sgt. Brian Buter of the Sheriff’s Office says on July 1, 2014 the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office began contracted services with the Village of Spring Lake and the city of Ferrysburg and would not be involved in this type of action.
