BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI (WHTC) – Hamilton High graduate and University of Michigan sophomore Nick Carlson made an amazing run in the U.S. Amateur Golf championships at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills. Carlson fell just short of reaching the finals on Saturday, losing in a 21-hole match to Australian Curtis Luck. Carlson led going into the 18th hole, but Luck won the final hole to force a playoff. On the third playoff hole, Luck birdied the hole while Carlson’s last shot narrowly missed to the left. Carlson had advanced to the semifinals on Friday by defeating Dylan Meyer of Big Ten rival Illinois, 3-and-1. By reaching the semifinals, Carlson automatically qualifies to compete in the U.S. Amateur for the next two years.
