HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – No injuries were reported as fire broke out at the RepcoLite Decorating Center in Holland on Saturday afternoon.
Holland Public Safety firefighters and police officers were joined by Holland Township firefighters in responding to an alarm at the West 17th Street facility around 1:40 PM. Flames were spotted in what Public Safety Fire Captain Chris Tinney called “combustable racking used for storage.” While the building’s fire protection system kept the fire contained, crews were needed to bring the blaze under control, and they remained on the scene for more than two hours in ventilation, overhaul and salvage operations. There was no apparent release of hazardous materials, and water used to fight the fire was contained on site.
Tinney said that, although an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire won’t be done until Monday, “the circumstances surrounding the fire do not appear to be suspicious or intentional.” No damage estimate was immediately made, and Tinney was told by store staffers that the Decorating Center “will be open for business soon.”
