HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Amidst the waves crashing against the shore was the sound of laughter.
A place to play with a pristine view of Lake Michigan is a hit at Holland State Park. WHTC News took in a sunset at the new playground and the verdict is in. It’s a hit!
There are three slides, a crawling tube, two sets of monkey bars, four climbers and two spinners. Kids can even play the drums. Parents and Grandparents socialized while the kids played Thursday evening, August 25. One telling WHTC News that the playground enhances the sunsets.
The playground was constructed by LMCU volunteers and Carter Oosterhouse’s nonprofit Carter’s Kids. Carter’s Kids, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, has built about 60 playgrounds around the country, including the playgrounds at Windmill Island and Grand Haven State Park.
The playground got off the ground when Sally Stark a former school teacher started going door-to door to get people to commit and then one day knocked on the door of Lakeshore Advantage. From there they joined forces to raise funds.
A grant matched from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Public Spaces and Community Places program, got the project off the ground.
Holland State Park is located at 2215 Ottawa Beach Road in Holland.
