ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 67-year-old Cedar Springs man was critically injured when two semis collided east of Zeeland on Monday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Austin, Keith Tyler apparently didn’t see stopped traffic ahead of him when his trailerless rig slammed into the trailer of a semi on westbound I-196 near the Byron Road exit around 2:30 PM. The traffic was halted due to another wreck further west. First responders extricated Tyler from his cab and took him to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment. The other driver, 57-year-old Scott Holycross of Indiana, was not hurt.
Austin added that both truckers were buckled up at the time of the crash, which closed the highway for a time and remains under investigation.
