HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Public input into a proposed multi-story project in downtown Holland begins tonight.
Representatives of Burton Katzman, a Detroit-area developer, along with Rockford Construction, will give details of their planned mixed-use effort during a 7 PM Open House in Council Chambers at Holland City Hall. They are looking into purchasing public parking Lot 7C off of 7th Street, located just west of the City Flats Hotel, and build a four- or five-story structure with rental units and retail space.
Developers told City Council members last week that a parking garage built in the center of the building would accommodate the 180 spaces currently at that municipal parking lot. This project would be similar to ones built in recent years at other Michigan communities such as Auburn Hills and Birmingham. Burton Katzman wants to gauge public reaction before developing a formal plan and presenting an offer for purchasing the site.
The concept will also be presented at a joint meeting of Downtown Development Authority and Parking Board, along with sessions of the Principal Shopping District Board and the Holland Planning Commission, before City Council takes it up at a work-study session prior to a possible decision at an October 19th business meeting.
