HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The City of Holland is entered in the American in Bloom competition for the sixth straight year.
The American in Bloom Symposium and Awards Program will take place October 6-8 in California. The America in Bloom competition unites the community, promotes civic pride and involvement, and provides a positive image for the community to aid in it’s economic development and tourism efforts. The city of Holland received national attention as the host community for the America in Bloom National Symposium which was held in September of 2015.
Community Outreach Coordinator for the Holland Visitors Bureau Linda Hart says Holland did a walking tour for the Symposium and was the first community to take over a portion of the planning. It was so well received that American in Bloom adopted that piece of the program and it’s the new standard for part of the program for the Symposium.
Steve Zwiep Parks Supervisor for the City of Holland says the competition is tough. “Fairhope Alabama shows quite well and that’s probably one of our tougest competitors. All across the country we have cities from as small as 500 people in their community to up to 100,000. Whatever efforts they put in helps their community to brighten it up and make it a better place to live.”
In 2015, Holland’s entry received the top award in the Circle of Champions Mid-Sized Cities category and received a 5-out-of-5-bloom rating, winning the top award in its population category during the first four years.
Holland was also awarded the YouTube video award in 2014. http://bit.ly/1PnLOab
