HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – There’s been another snag in the effort to find a new operator for the Holland Farmers Market.
It was hoped that, by next Wednesday’s business meeting, the City Council would make a decision on what entity would secure the contract for administering the 8th Street Marketplace, which includes the Farmers Market, for 2017 and possibly 2018. However, according to First Ward Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem Mike Trethewey, “There was some information, misinterpreted by staff, that they wanted to further investigate and make sure all three parties fully understood this new information so that they could change their proposals (if desired.”
Trethewey added during a Wednesday appearance on “WHTC Morning News” that he and his colleagues were not given the details as to that “information,” and that there is no new target date to award the contract between the Holland Area Visitors Bureau, Edward Morales and Visser Farms.
Current Market Master Candy Todd and Market Assistant Judy Laidler are retiring at the end of the current Market season, and the city decided to bid out their duties instead of hiring replacements or having current staffers assume their responsibilities.
