HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC) – A 23-year-old Allendale Township man sits in the Ottawa County Jail after an arraignment on charges stemming from a weekend shooting near the main Grand Valley State University campus.
Douglas Brent was ordered held on 100 thousand dollars cash bond by Hudsonville District Court Judge Kenneth Post after a Monday hearing. Detectives claim that he was the one who fired shots that wounded an unnamed 28-year-old Grand Rapids man, who continues to recover at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital. Brent, who is not a student at GVSU, faces assault with intent to murder and felony firearms charges in connection with the incident.
The early Saturday morning incident was in the parking lot of an off-campus housing unit across from the school’s main entrance on Lake Michigan Drive. A second person was also taken into custody at the time, but the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet filed any other charges in this case.
The investigation into the matter continues, and any tips to the Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer are welcome.
