HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – The rules of the road apply to not just motor vehicles, as a 49-year-old cyclist from Grand Rapids pedaling on Holland’s North Side found out on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant David VanderPloeg, Jodie Gulch was riding her bike westbound on the non-motorized path that runs parallel to Lakewood Boulevard around 2:30 PM. As she approached 144th Avenue, where there are traffic and pedestrian signal, she continued through a “don’t walk” for the path and collided with a northbound pickup truck that was proceeding on a green light, looking to turn right.
Gulch was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of minor, non-life threating injuries. The pickup driver, 49-year-old Brian Groenhof of Holland, was not hurt. The incident remains under investigation.
