ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 18, 2022) – Blustery weather conditions may have played a factor in two persons being hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash east of Zeeland on Friday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Eric Westveer, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to Byron Road at 56th Avenue just before 5 PM. “The investigation shows that a 1987 Chevrolet pickup, driven by a 54-year-old man from Hudsonville, was traveling east when it entered snowy and drifting road conditions, as well as high winds,” Westveer said in a department statement. “The conditions caused the driver to lose control, and the truck slid into the westbound lanes. A 2014 Volkswagen, driven by a 58-year-old man from Holland, attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to and was struck. The Volkswagen then went off the roadway and rolled.”
The sedan driver and his passenger, a 63-year-old Holland woman, suffered what Westveer called “moderate” injuries and were taken to Holland Hospital for treatment. The truck driver was treated for bumps and bruises at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
