GEORGETOWN TWP, MI (WHTC) – A Hudsonville man is in serious but stable condition after being struck while walking Sunday evening.
Ottawa County Sheriff Sgt. Kristie Wendt says police were dispatched to Chicago Drive just west of Port Sheldon Street around 8:20 p.m. October 30, when 20-year-old Kegan Cortez of Jenison was traveling in the left lane of Chicago Drive while Nicholas Schalk was walking westbound in the left lane in the travel portion of the roadway and was struck.
Schalk Was wearing dark upper clothing and Cortez stated he did not see him until just prior to the crash. Costez could not avoid a collision due to a vehicle being in the right-hand-lane next to him.
Schalk suffered head and leg injuries and was transported to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids.
The crash remains under investigation.
