ZEELAND TWP, MI (WHTC) – A 56-year-old Zeeland man has died after his bicycle was struck by a car.
Sgt Christie Wendt of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says bicyclist John Pastunink, was struck while riding north across Business Loop I-196 in the crosswalk at 88th Avenue around 7 p.m. on Thursday, November, 3. Caleb MacDonald, 17, Jenison, was driving east on the business loop and did not see Pastunink in the crosswalk until he was west of the intersection. MacDonald could not avoid a collision and Pastunink was struck on the left side of MacDonald’s vehicle.
Pastunink, who was wearing his helmet, was ejected from his bicycle and was transported to Spectrum Butterworth in Grand Rapids where he died of his injuries.
MacDonald who received minor injuries was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to Zeeland Hospital.
