HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Holland High will hold its 79th Annual Veterans Day Observance on Friday, November 11.
The public is invited to the ceremony and military veterans along with their family and friends are encouraged to attend. The event not only honors veterans, but is used as a teaching tool for students. Holland High Principal Katie Pennington says she is grateful the veterans want to share their story with them.
” Because of advances in medical technology, more and more veterans are surviving hings that would have killed them in former wars. So we’re able to talk to them and I am grateful they are able to share their experiences with us. As I hope it honors them, it is also very powerful for our students and community to see how impactful one’s life can be.” Pennington said.
The keynote speaker is Marine Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Draney. Draney is an Allegan High School grad who joined the Marines in 2004. He has earned many commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.
The Veterans Day Observance ceremony will start at 10:15 a.m. in the Dutch Dome with musical performances by Holland High School Choir, Wind Ensemble and Vocal Dimensions. Beforehand the public is invited for coffee, pastry and fellowship at Holland High Commons at 9:15 a.m.
1450 WHTC will carry the event live and online at www.whtc.com
