HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The holiday season is starting this week with these events in the Holland/Zeeland area!
11/27 Sunday: A Charlie Brown Christmas at the Holland Civic Theatre- 1st time on stage in Michigan! Watch the classic Holiday show come to life as Charlie Brown learns the real meaning of Christmas. Complete with the whole Charlie Brown gang, the show is rounded out with the music by Vince Guaraldi including “Christmas Time is Here”. 50 West Ninth Street, Holland; 2pm; $10.
11/28 Monday: Christmas Train Show at Howard Miller Community Center- The Annual Holiday Train Show is presented by Holland Modular Railroad Club. Non Perishable Food Donations Accepted for Harvest Stand Ministries. 14 S Church St, Zeeland; 6-8pm; Free.
11/29 Tuesday: Parade of Lights in Downtown Holland- Santa arrives in Downtown Holland escorted by bands, floats, vehicles, family and friends all decked out in thousands of sparkling holiday lights! Over 80 entries will illuminate the streets of Downtown Holland during this procession. At the end of the Parade, Santa will take the time to greet his fans – young and old alike! The parade begins at 8th Street and Columbia Avenue and continues onto the Eighth Street Market Place, home of the Holiday Kerstmarkt. 78 East 8th Street; 6:30pm; Free.
11/30 Wednesday: Exhibit: For the Future Peace: WWII and Holland on the Homefron at the Holland Museum- Seventy-five years ago, Pearl Harbor was bombed and the United States formally entered World War II. Join the Museum as we explore the personal stories of local people who assisted in the war effort, including soldiers who fought abroad, women who stepped in to work and children who helped in any way they could. 31 W. 10th St., Holland; 11 am-4 pm; $7.00 adults; $6.00 seniors; $4.00 students; children 5 and under free; members free.
12/1 Thursday: Holland Garden Club Holiday Home Tour & Tea- Tour 4 stately homes decorated for Christmas in the city of Holland! Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased from Holland Garden Club members, at Jonkers Gardens, Van Wieren Hardware and the Holland Visitors Bureau. Tickets are $25 day of show at each home and First Reformed Church of Holland. From 2pm-5pm “A Gingerbread Christmas” Afternoon Tea and Designer Wreath Raffle will be held at the church. 630 State Street, Holland; 1pm-6pm.
12/2 Friday: Sinterklaas Eve Procession in Downtown Holland- Reminiscent of years gone by, this special folk celebration is centered around Sinterklaas, the benevolent St. Nicholas. In true Dutch tradition, Sinterklaas arrives each December on his white horse, surrounded by his mischievous Zwarte Piet helpers. Begin the evening at 6pm at the Holland Armory (16 West 9th Street). Listen to stories, make a craft, and play family games. At 6:40, you may leave to go to the Kerstmarkt at the Eighth Street Market Place to get in line for the beginning of the Sinterklaas Procession. (3 city blocks away), or you may join the procession at 9th Street and Central Avenue around 7:10pm.The Sinterklaas Procession begins at the Kerstmarkt (at Eighth Street Market Place, 150 W. 8th Street) at 7:00 pm and proceeds east on 8th Street to Central Avenue, south on Central Ave. to Centennial Park where there will be a tree lighting ceremony with Christmas carols immediately followed by cookies, hot cocoa, and photos with Sinterklaas at the Holland Museum. (Centennial Park is across the street from the Holland Museum.) 150 West Eighth Street, Holland; 7pm; free.
12/3 Saturday: Holland High Theatre presents Mary Poppins- Holland High Theatre is opening it’s 2016-17 season with the timeless and family friendly musical MARY POPPINS! The show runs December 1-11, 2016. Tickets officially go on sale September 1 at hollandtheatreguild.org. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students (18 and under) in advance. Prices goes up $5 if purchased at the door the night of shows. Tickets will sell fast, so get them now! The show features students from 3rd thru 12th grades from throughout Holland Public Schools. With hundred’s of costumes and wigs and some special magic thrown in, MARY POPPINS will be a great evening!
