HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – No criminal charges will be filed in relation to an accident that killed 37-year-old Kevin Witte in September.
Witte who was a Holland Christian high school teacher and coach was struck on his way to work on September 26, when a 44-foot pole on a Parkway Electric truck impaled the windshield of his car. He died the next day.
Captain Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s office confirms with WHTC News that Parkway Electric has been cited for the length of the pole as it exceeded 40 feet and was in violation. Ottawa County Sheriff Sgt. Steve Austin says the pole exceeded 40 feet. A permit and escort were required for transporting the pole.
The driver Thomas Heeringa, 61, who was driving the truck for Holland based-Parkway Electric was not injured in the crash.
The Sheriff’s Department will be releasing more information Wednesday, November 30.
