HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 14-year-old Holland boy has succumbed to injuries suffered when he was hit by a vehicle trying to cross Lincoln Avenue earlier this week.
The Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office notified Holland Public Safety on Thursday that Raymond Lemus died while being treated at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. That was where he was taken following the late Monday night incident in which he and another unnamed teen were attempting to cross the roadway after leaving the Lincolnshire Party Store.
According to investigating officers, an unnamed 19-year-old woman was driving a small, four-door sedan northbound in a heavy rain and apparently didn’t see Lemus on the darkened roadway. There was no indication from police reports that the other teen was hit, and neither he nor the motorist were injured in the incident.
While the case remains open, detectives don’t believe at this point that the driver was at fault in the matter, and tips to Holland Public Safety are still welcome.
