SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC) – Downtown Saugatuck will be a winter wonderland this weekend with several holiday events.
On Saturday, December 3, warm up with hot chocolate at “Santa’s Workshop” aka The Annex of Coral Gables. Kids can visit with Santa, choose from a variety of crafts and games and join in the Christmas Karaoke and Sing-Alongs.
The Whootville Christmas Parade starts at 1 p.m. featuring the Saugatuck High School band, The Whoville Peppermint Stick Marching Brigade and the Snow Shovel Drill team. Everyone is invited to dress up as their favorite Whoville Character, even pets. The Grinch will also be making an appearance.
Gregory Muncey who is the Marketing Manager of the Saugatuck/Douglas Area Business Association (SDABA), says what really sets this apart from other holiday events is the uniqueness of the area and the locals who take part in it. “What really sets us apart is that we are really the small town charm of West Michigan. We really show our spirit with our locals and volunteers who take part and create these events. To make us step out a little bit more is the “Whoville” theme. That kind of makes us a little different too.”
At 5 p.m. Saturday, the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served courtesy of Mill Pond Realty and Saugatuck’s Mayor, Chris Peterson along with Santa will host the ceremony.
Finially the Candy Cane Game will run Friday through Sunday. Find the giant candy cane in participating stores and write down the letter attached to it. Find all the candy cane letters and unscramble them to win $150.00 in SDABA Bucks.
