HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – As President-elect Donald Trump thanks his supporters across the country on his “thank you” tour, he hasn’t forgotten about West Michigan.
Grand Rapids was the site of his final rally early in the morning on Election Day, and the Republican has a rally set for Friday night, December 9, at the DeltaPlex Arena. Trump had made several stops to the DeltaPlex during his campaign.
His latest Cabinet appointment has a link to Michigan. Dr. Ben Carson, who grew up in the projects in Detroit, has been named to become Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He had reportedly been offered the job running Health and Human Services but turned it down saying he didn’t want to run a federal agency.
The Center for American Progress says HUD is a is a critically important federal agency with a budget of almost $50 billion with 9,000 employees across the country, and programs that affect the lives of millions of people. They say Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, does not have the relevant experience to run it.
Doors at the DeltaPlex will open for the event at 4 p.m., with President-elect Trump slated to take the stage at 7 p.m.
