HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC) – Another long-time government leader in Ottawa County has passed away.
Commissioner Dennis Van Dam, who had represented portions of Georgetown Township on the county board for nearly six years, lost his battle with cancer yesterday at the age of 64. The Hudsonville Republican had won a third term on the panel last month, defeating independent challenger Collin Riddering with 84 percent of the vote.
A real estate broker for more than 30 years, Mr. Van Dam was also the district director for State Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof (R-West Olive) and served on the West Michigan Enforcement Team’s policy board. Sunday visitation hours at Yntema Funeral Home in Zeeland are ahead of a Monday funeral at Oakland Christian Reformed Church in Hamilton.
This past July, retired County Commissioner Gordon Schrotenboer of the Holland area died at age 84.
