HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Dog lovers in Holland got an early Christmas gift from City Hall last night.
The City Council approved an ordinance amendment allowing canine owners to walk their leashed animals in most city parks. Before this, walking the dog was permitted in only five of Holland’s 22 municipal parks, but this restriction was generally ignored and seldomly enforced.
One concern voiced by council members was educating owners about cleaning up after their pets, with city staffers responding that there are dog waste stations with rule signs and tips posted.
The only parks with “No Dogs Allowed” now in Holland are the Matt Urban Sports and Recreation Complex, the Maplewood Youth Complex and the DeGraaf Nature Center.
