PORT SHELDON, MI (WHTC) – The third time was definitely not the charm for a 14-year-old Port Sheldon boy when it came to robbing a West Olive convenience store.
The Exxon station off of 136th Avenue and Port Sheldon Street had been held up by a single suspect wielding a firearm on October 18th and November 3rd, with the suspect fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash and the clerk on duty shaken but unhurt. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Mark Bennett, evidence gathered after a burglary at that same location during the early morning hours of this past Sunday led deputies to the suspect.
With the cooperation of the suspect and his parents, detectives were able to gather enough evidence to consider all three incidents “cleared,” including the seizing of an air-soft gun purportedly used in the armed robberies. The case was given to the Prosecutor’s Office for review, with juvenile armed robbery and breaking and entering charges petitions filed in Ottawa County Juvenile Court.
The unnamed suspect was released to the custody of his parents. The investigation continues, though, with tips to Silent Observer welcome.
