HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Services for 64-year-old Dennis Van Dam, District Six Commissioner of Ottawa County are Monday, December 12 at Oakland Christian Reformed Church 4452 38 th Street in Hamilton.
Van Dam passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones and had been undergoing treatment for cancer and recently began hospice care.
The following is from a press release issued by Al Vanderberg, Ottawa County Administrator:
Dennis was known and admired by elected officials, community leaders, county employees and residents. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, selflessness and excellence. As an elected official, he embodied the highest ideals of public service, always doing what he believed was right, even if it was not popular. He was a steadfast, fiscal conservative who passionately served Ottawa County and the State of Michigan.
Along with his work as an Ottawa County Commissioner, Van Dam also served the public on the Ottawa County Planning and Policy Committee, the Ottawa County Talent and Recruitment Committee, the West Michigan Enforcement Team Board and the State of Michigan’s Community Corrections Board. Dennis also served as District Director to Senator Arlan Meekhof for several years.
Ottawa County’s sincere condolences are with his wife, Sharon, his children and loved ones. May they find some comfort knowing that Dennis has made Ottawa County a better place.
