HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A Caucasian man in his 30’s is being sought in connection with a “suspicious incident” north of Holland High School this morning.
According to Holland Public Safety Captain Robert Buursma, an unnamed 16-year-old student was walking eastbound on 22nd Street near Harrison Avenue around 10 AM, apparently heading towards the school campus, when a minivan pulled alongside him on the roadway. The driver asked the teen if he wanted a ride, the youth said no and took off running and not stopping until reaching a resource officer at the school. The teen was not harmed, and the driver left the scene without incident.
Buursma said in a statement that, “Due to the time of day, age of the student and cold temperature outside, as well as the lack of any threats or coercion by the driver, it appears (that) his intentions may well have been completely innocent. However, Holland officers are still attempting to identify him in order to question him about this incident.”
The driver had a thin build and was wearing a Michigan State University baseball-style cap, while the shaken teen could only describe the minivan as being reddish-orange in color, without being able to say what make or model it was.
Anyone with any information on the matter is asked to call Holland Public Safety.
